District Heating Systems
District Heating is the ideal option for a group of houses or buildings, blocks of social housing or even as the name suggests a village or district.
It uses a centralised boiler to provide heat for all the buildings. This can be a heat only boiler, or the heat from a combined heat and power (CHP) plant supplying heat and electricity.
A typical District Heating Circuit consists of highly insulated pipes that are connected via junction points which allows easy connection to each building, from which hot water can be taken from the main to a heat exchanger (heat substation) within each building.
Temperature measurement of the flow and return lines, plus a flow meter, allow the actual heat usage within each building, or apartment, to be separately measured and billed accordingly.
